More Soul Food: Kalmunity

Saw this show Sunday night - so good. Completely and totally enjoyed this.

The cool thing is that their music is improv reggae, jazz, funk, with spoken word mixed in. It was amazing. The spoken word was inspired - it was a black history month event, and therefore much of the theme of the spoken word revolved around this. More white people need to see stuff like this - the honest and heart-wrenching poetry was utterly beautiful, some of it giving brilliant insight into compelling race issues. The music was so good - the pieces were a fusion of reggae and jazz, or reggae and funk, or all three... so interesting, so unique, and super catchy - you couldn't help but move. I could feel it in my stomach and my chest - my whole body in fact. The sign of good music...

(and because of my un-shy friend Winston, I even got to shake the hand of the percussionist who I am now planning to marry.)
