Zeeshan Nizami was infuriated when he first heard of the controversial Danish cartoon depicting the Prophet Muhammad in a turban shaped like a bomb.
Yesterday, the 16-year-old was all smiles because, he said, he and his Canadian peers didn't fall into the trap of their foes by resorting to violence to vent their anger.
Instead, the Grade 11 student at Scarborough's Madinatul-Uloom Academy and others at the Islamic school held an interfaith forum, with the help of the Canadian Council of Christians and Jews, seeking guidance and solace from other religious leaders.
"Our protest was silent and we didn't go out launching any violent protest," Nizami said. "I'm very proud of the way we protested. It's a Canadian way. It's a peaceful and neutral way. And it's much better than the violent way."...
